Sharon McMillan is ideally suited to her role as Operations Director in Guernsey as she can always be relied on to give every task her best shot.
She personifies perseverance and never quits until the job is done to the highest standards. Sharon focuses on operational management, working closely with the client administration teams in particular to understand what they need to service their clients. It is an exacting science and Sharon’s temperament and tenacity are the perfect mix in making sure that the right systems and processes are in place. Going out of her way is in Sharon’s nature and her calmness is an anchor, a true blessing for the Group.
The only person you should try to be better than is the person you were yesterday.
Having graduated with a degree in accountancy, Sharon went on to train as a chartered accountant with a very small firm in Scotland where she was thrown in the deep end and had to learn quickly. With a great grounding in accountancy, Sharon left her country of birth when offered a position in a wealth management company in Guernsey. She is a Prince2 (PRojects IN Controlled Environments) qualified practitioner, has an Institute of Directors’ Diploma in Company Direction and is a member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners.
IN THREE WORDS:
Sharon believes that one of the important things to bring into work each day is a sense of humour. It makes her life better and hopefully lifts others too. An emphatic team player, she finds that her best ideas come from collaborating with other people. Sharon particularly values the support and camaraderie of Anita Robert and Jacki James.
As an accountant, Sharon is only really happy when things balance – the most important being the creation and maintenance of a proper work/life balance. Always up for a challenge she goes the extra mile for charity – or 650 miles in the case of the six day ‘White Mountain to White Rock’ cycle challenge. Clearly Sharon likes going places and has travelled far afield for both business and pleasure. But, there is no place like home where she loves spending time with her partner and friends, enjoying sumptuous home-cooked meals before taking Purdy the Dalmatian on rambling coastal walks.
