First Names take on Tough Mann for third year running

12 August 2016

Last weekend, 20 brave ‘First Names’ competed in the annual Tough Mann Adventure Challenge in the Isle of Man.

The 10km course featured 25 obstacles including boggy swamps, sky-high rope scrambles, huge hay bales and Berlin walls. It certainly was not for the faint hearted!

Two new faces joined the team this year, with Kevin from our Amsterdam office and Kirby from Jersey both flying over to compete in the island’s now infamous event. It was a great opportunity for the mixed team to get to know one another a little better – while covered head-to-toe in mud.

The team was amazing, taking on a sequence of obstacles that would have challenged even the most fearless of thrill seekers. The electric atmosphere spurred the competitors on, with an impressive 560 crossing the finish line.

Here is what some of our First Names had to say about the challenge:

“No obstacle too great! The camaraderie and support from the First Names team was fantastic, with everybody pulling together (and pulling each other over the obstacles!). A great, and muddy, day out.” – Niamh

“For me Tough Mann was a challenge to start with but then it proved that nothing’s impossible if you believe in yourself.” – Petya

“All the hard work, preparation and dedication were paid back in full, with mud!” – Gareth

“Testing your mental and physical limits together with your colleagues meant we went in as colleagues and came out as a real team.” – Kevin

A special mention must go to our very own Graham Furner, who was the first competitor to reach the top of ‘Killer Hill’. Graham claimed the title of ‘King of the Mountain’ for the second year running (pun intended) after successfully ascending 1,000 feet in a distance of two kilometres, in just 13 minutes and 14 seconds!

This year Tough Mann supported local charity Tabitha’s Trust, which helps families affected by child bereavement.
